What St. Augustine Runners and Athletes Are Saying

Real results from active adults and athletes who refused to settle for sitting on the sideline.

I went from not being able to walk to preparing for an ultramarathon after only 4 sessions. Dr. Brooke is amazing and the dry needling really helps.
Gemma Del Prato
I’ve suffered from plantar fasciitis that prevented me enjoying walking my dogs and working out at the gym. Dr. Brooke Shivers provided treatment that is taking care the painful and debilitating foot issue. I’m back in action thanks to Brooke.
Jose Luis Ochoa
Didn’t know what to expect at first but this experience has totally changed my mindset on how I workout. It has brought awareness to my movements and has helped with my recovery time immensely. I find myself doing things I used to avoid out of fear of getting hurt. This experience has taught me how to listen to my body and then tell Brook what it said so we can work on it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your first visit at First Coast Running Medicine in St. Augustine.

Do I need a doctor's referral to start physical therapy in Florida?

No. Florida allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can schedule a free discovery call and evaluation without seeing a physician first. If your insurance plan requires a referral for potential out-of-network reimbursement, we can help guide you through that process after your first visit.

I'm not a runner, is First Coast Running Medicine right for me?

Absolutely. Despite the name, we treat all active adults and athletes, runners, lifters, pickleball players, soccer athletes, and anyone dealing with an orthopedic injury that is limiting their training or daily activity. If you move and you want to keep moving, we can help.

Will I have to stop training while I'm in PT?

That is rarely the goal. We work with your schedule and your activity level modifying intensity or load where needed but our aim is to keep you moving through your recovery, not bench you until you feel better. For most patients, staying active is part of the plan.

Why is this cash-based? Does insurance cover any of it?

We are a cash-based practice, which means every session is one-on-one with Dr. Brooke, not split between multiple patients or handed off to an aide. We provide superbills upon request for potential out-of-network reimbursement, and we accept HSA and FSA payments. You're investing in focused, doctorate-level care every single visit.

What happens after I book a discovery call?

We start with a free discovery call to make sure we're a good fit and talk through what's going on. If you decide to move forward, you'll schedule a comprehensive one-on-one evaluation with Dr. Brooke. From there, she identifies the root cause and builds a personalized plan around your goals and your training not a generic protocol.
