Running Gait Analysis in St. Augustine, FL

See What's Slowing You Down.

Runners come to us when recurring pain, nagging inefficiency, or a slow return from injury makes them wonder if something in their form is the problem. We use video analysis and biomechanical assessment to find what your body is actually doing — and build a plan around it.

What Happens When Running Mechanics Go Unaddressed

Pain Keeps Coming Back for a Reason

Most recurring running injuries aren't bad luck. They're driven by a movement pattern — an overload in the hip, a compensated foot strike, a collapsed knee — that no amount of rest fully corrects. Until the pattern is identified, the injury tends to return.

Generic Cues Don't Fix Specific Problems

"Run softer" or "engage your glutes" might be the right direction — or it might be the wrong cue for how your body actually moves. Gait analysis removes the guesswork and shows you exactly where your mechanics are breaking down and why.

Inefficiency Adds Up Over Miles

A small mechanical inefficiency — a slight crossover stride, an early heel drop, a hip that doesn't extend — adds up across thousands of steps per run. Over a training block, that adds up to tissue overload, slower times, and a body that never quite recovers.

Common Conditions We Treat

Who Running Gait Analysis Is Built For

These are the runners and active adults who come to us for gait analysis — and the situations where seeing the mechanics clearly makes the biggest difference.

Runners With Recurring Injuries That Keep Coming Back - Dealing with hip, knee, or lower leg issues that return every training cycle — and ready to find out if a movement pattern is the reason they haven't fully resolved.

Athletes Returning From a Running Injury or Stress Fracture - Rebuilding mileage after time off and wanting to know their mechanics are dialed in before the load increases — so the injury doesn't return when training ramps back up.

Runners Who Feel Inefficient or Are Hitting a Performance Plateau - Not injured, but aware that their form is costing them — slower times, heavier legs, or a pace that doesn't match their fitness level.

How It Works

From First Call to Full Stride

Analyze

Every plan starts with a full movement assessment. Dr. Brooke digs into your history, how you move, and what's actually driving the problem, not just where it hurts. You leave the first visit with a clear picture of the root cause and a plan built around your goals.

adapt

Once the root cause is identified, the work begins. Dr. Brooke introduces progressive strength training designed to promote tissue adaptation, building the capacity your body needs to handle the demands of running, training, and competition without breaking down.

overcome

With the right foundation in place, the focus shifts to getting you back to full function and performance. You return to the activities you love, stronger, more durable, and with the tools to stay that way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Runners considering gait analysis in St. Augustine usually have the same questions before scheduling — here's what you need to know.

What does a running gait analysis session include?

Your session includes a movement screen, video analysis of your running gait on a treadmill, a strength and mobility assessment, and a full review of findings with your physical therapist. You'll leave with a clear picture of what's happening mechanically and a specific plan for what to do about it.

How is this different from a quick gait check at a running store?

Running store gait checks are designed to match you to a shoe. A clinical gait analysis is designed to identify mechanical patterns driving injury or inefficiency — and connect those findings to hands-on treatment, strength work, and corrective cues. It's a clinical assessment, not a retail screening.

Do I need to be injured to schedule a gait analysis?

No — gait analysis is for any runner who wants to understand their mechanics, whether you're managing a recurring issue, rebuilding after an injury, or simply trying to run more efficiently. Many runners come in as a proactive step before starting a new training block or race cycle.

Will I get specific feedback or just general cues?

You'll get specific, individualized feedback based on what we actually see in your video — not generic advice. Findings are reviewed with you in the session, and you leave with a clear understanding of what's driving your pattern and the exact steps to address it.

Is gait analysis covered by insurance?

First Coast Running Medicine is a cash-based practice, so we work outside of insurance. We can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Coverage varies by plan — we recommend checking with your insurer directly. No referral is needed to schedule.
